According the the ancient yogic science, each breath we take is made up 4 parts: Puraka (Inhale), Kumbhaka (holding), Rechaka (exhaling) and Shunyaka (holding out). Depending on how you do those several things, which portion or which side of the body you are breathing into, which nostril, the duration of each portion and which ones you choose to include or exclude, and even what you are visualizaing you can achieve not only massive changes to your physical health but dynamic changes in state of mind and even consciousness.
